Why is a dynamic warm-up useful before stunt work?

A 2025 meta-analysis covering 33 studies and 921 participants found that increased muscle temperature improved rate-dependent force qualities such as rapid force development and power, although it did not meaningfully improve maximum force.
A 2026 systematic review of 40 studies found that neuromuscular warm-ups and dynamic strategies were often linked with better sprint, jump or balance outcomes. The evidence was heterogeneous, so no single sequence can be labelled best for every stunt task.

What is a practical 15-minute stunt warm-up?
The sequence below is a general fitness example. It is not a technical stunt lesson and should not be used to practise an unfamiliar action without the appropriate professional lead.
- Minutes 0–3: easy whole-body movement that raises temperature without breathlessness.
- Minutes 3–6: controlled movement for the ankles, hips, thoracic spine, shoulders and wrists as required.
- Minutes 6–9: low-volume activation for the trunk, hips, shoulder blades and landing positions.

What should happen after a long production delay?
A performer can cool down while lighting changes, cameras reset or departments solve a technical issue. After a short wait, a few minutes of easy movement and task-specific rehearsal may be enough. After a longer cold wait, repeat more of the raise, mobilise and activate phases.

- Doing too much static stretching immediately before fast action: use controlled dynamic preparation unless a specific range requires another approach.

- Copying another performer: injury history, role, costume and action demands differ.
